Yet another early morning moment of beauty that I can relate to very well.
When I was young, my parents still had their ranch/farm and still had cattle on it. There were many times that we spent the night before going hunting and, when the sun came up, I would see our cows grazing in the coastal bermuda in the cleared pasture that I could see from the deer blind and the mist or fog had risen around them. Even if I saw a deer or javelina on such mornings it was almost too beautiful to shoot them. If I did shoot, I always took several minutes to enjoy their beauty so I would remember it when I enjoyed the wonderful meat and be thankful that God had gifted me with both.
BTW, I have always despised hunters who only kill for a trophy! I was raised to believe that people had an obligation to the animals. If we don't hunt them in some areas, but do so in a controlled way, their numbers increase to the point that they starve to death. If we did hunt, we did everything possible to kill them cleanly and quickly and avoid inflicting any suffering on them. Torturing animals (or humans) is just sick! I was also taught to appreciate the beauty of animals and to be thankful for that beauty.
I hope that no one who reads this will be offended or upset by it. My only intention here is to share a memory and to explain, if possible, to those who might be offended by my memory that I have a strong appreciation of animals, beauty and nature and have always done my best to protect and care for all of them to the best of my ability.
