I consider it a great opportunity that I had a chance to 'study' kingfishers past summer. The most important thing I learned from watching them for hours and hours is the more you think you know, the less you know... Just like people, kingfishers have many rituals and just like people they love to break the rules.... I used to go look for them in the early morning since it's said that they're most active at that time of day. And I got fooled several times. While I had gotten out of my nice warm bed in the middle of the night, the kingfishers decided to keep it calm and didn't show up until afternoon...
So...instead of the planning & plotting I decided just to go there and see... And although sometimes nothing really special happened - 'just' a kingfisher sitting on a branch or taking a bath- I enjoyed every single second....
Hey there, all your photos of kingfishers are a real inspiration and are truly something to aspire towards. I'm curious as to how close you were to the bird to get a shot like this with the 300mm?

To photograph kingfishers I was sitting in a hut.
