Wow I did some searching and I learned a whole bunch of things... firstly .. it probably is a bush cricket, as it seems that katydids are green. But also.. they make the sounds with their wings, not their legs.. (so I don't know so much)... Also I'm in southeastern US. and yes the katydid can make a lot of noise, but the bush crickets in different places have interesting different sounds... try searching "bush cricket sound" and you will find sites with the sounds recorded .. wow.. that was neat.. some bush cricket are loud and others very soft.. so .. don't know about yours.. but it sure is pretty. I believe that "sword' is an ovipositor, so 'Mrs' is probably right ^_^ I just love learning new things, don't you?
I found this page: [link] Some of them sound like miniature trains passing by or like burping frogs......
~Roaguewolf told me that my so called sword is an ovipositor indeed.
And yes: New Things are Fun!
